Network Analysis @ the Enterprise
Using Wireshark™ as alternative tool

Overview
With the current global economic crisis that is also impacting the information technology industry, many enterprises are either reviewing the current budget, delaying procurement, or holding their spending on Network Infrastructure equipments. The messages from many CTOs are usually about doing a careful spending on the available budget, and optimize the equipments/infrastructure.

Optimization in the network infrastructure would include the ability to understand what is really going on in the network and have a better Network visibility along the way. Big players on tools such as protocol analyzer in this specific niche market are coming in. Do we need to spend big budget?  From a quick review of current situation in troubleshooting and managing network infrastructure in an enterprise, the workshop will zoom in to troubleshooting tools currently available in the market. What is the right attitude one should develop to be successful in network analysis discipline? What are some of the tools of the trade used by network analysts will be discussed. And yes, open source has an alternative answer for protocol analyzer that cost thousand dollars in commercial market.

The rest of the day will be filled with an introductory level of guided labs hands on to explore  Wireshark™ - a useful open source tool created by Gerald Comb from The United States. For this occasion we would have a mobile rack with equipments from Cisco Systems, & others to enhance the live experience on network analysis exercise. Additional practical case studies will be presented. No prior Cisco/ vendor Certification is required. A simple understanding of basic Networking 101 knowledge is however assumed.
